Los TRIACS se deben probar bajo condiciones de operación usando un osciloscopio, se puede utilizar un multimetro para hacer una prueba aproximada o rústica con el triac fuera del circuito. Para probar un TRIAC con el multimetro, se sigue el siguiente procedimiento:   Ponga el multimetro en la escala R x 100.   Conecte a punta negativa del multimetro a la terminal principal 1. Conecte la punta positiva del medidor a la terminal principal 2. El multimetro debe leer infinito. Ponga en corto circuito la compuerta de la terminal principal 2, usando un conductor como puente. La lectura del medidor debe ser "casi cero ohms". Esta lectura cero debe permanecer cuando se retira la punta de prueba.   Invierta las puntas del medidor, de manera que la terminal positiva esté sobre la terminal principal 1 y la terminal negativa sobre la terminal principal 2.
